Pink by Lili Wilkinson

Pink is by Melbourne author Lili Wilkinson, (daughter of Carole – Dragonkeeper etc). Lili has written a smart, funny and engaging story about gender, relationships and friendship. Ava is an only child who decides to change schools to realise her academic goals. In doing this she creates friction in her relationship with girlfriend, Chloe, and reinvents herself at her new high school. When she auditions for the school musical, she crashes and burns and finds herself working backstage with the ‘freaks’, whilst still maintaining a friendship with the cool crowd. Recently, Lili said this about ‘pink books’. “A Pink Book doesn’t necessarily have a pink cover. Emma and Jane Eyre are Pink Books. A pink book has a female protagonist. It’s realistic and contemporary, and is wryly funny. The focus is on personal relationships.” In this case this ‘Pink Book’ does have a pink cover and it is all of the above. Well done Lili on a wonderful book.
You won’t miss this book in the Resource Centre. Look for the lolly pink cover!
